I would appreciate what size stable you all think is ideal for a 15'1 HH horse. I am at present using a 14' by 16' stable and thinking of going to a smaller one 12' by10'. My horse is very laid back and was in a smaller stable before. Just wonder about pros and cons of big versus little?

I think 12' X 10' would be OK, although i wouldn't go any smaller.

My horse is 15h and she has a 13' X 13' stable.

Within reason, I don't think you can have a stable that's too big.

12' x 10' would be described as 'airy' where I live! 10' x 10' is acceptable for most stalls here. I'd be happy with a 12' x 10'.

Horses for courses, if one has, for example, a 15h carthorse type then it may need more space. Some horses will get themselves stuck in a 20 acre field let alone a stable, most have good spacial awareness and cope just fine.

My stalls are 10' x 11' and I have 16h Quarter Horses (chunky beasts) that live in them quite happily, I go out every night and they are all flat out snoring, never had one cast yet. My 32" mini, on the other hand, managed to get himself cast in a 20' x 11' once!

The disadvantage to smaller stalls is that they tend to be muckier!;)

I've got a 16h in a 15'x11 at the moment and he is so messy. I've had him in a small stable before and he was fine and really clean. We are moving in 3 weeks to a 12x10 and a 12.12, so we are putting the 16h in the little stable and the 15.1 in the bigger stable. :D
