my mare who has been out of competative work now for over a year due to my injured ankle and foot is now coming back into work.
only real problem we have encountered is canter.
flat work beautiful, nice outline, working from behind, soft and gives to the hand nicely, until canter - then wooohooo bunny hop, prance, bunny hop.
Back checked, teech checked, saddle checked.
she is very very light and responsive in the mouth and off the leg, anglo arab chestnut mare (yes i know not a good combination) but before this time off we were competing nicely in dressage and jumping a good 1.20 tracks.
now i have not been able to attempt more then a small half barrel cross due to her canter being so irratic, partially not to make her loose any more confidence and partially for my own balance since my ankle is still not 100%.
tried canter poles, grid work ect and nothing seems to be working in making her focus. if anything getting her more wound up leading to mini rears aswell
(
when turned to a jump she either tanks towards it, resulting in me half halting her, which i think is making her think im pulling her up from it. As a result i feel she is loosing her previous confidence aswell.
any suggestions?!?!?!?
ps - have even been lunging her over jumps and is generally very calm on approach and in canter to a decent height jump aswell.
i would quite happily just stick with the dressage as she has paces to die for and at my last riding club meet was even commented on for her wow factor - but no point is a cannot get the canter right to do a decent test.
HELP!!!!!
do you think repitition repitition repitition of grids will make her calm so its not a case of jump jump jump - more ok we are jumping again ______ nothing new
