My horse is a Lusitano x TB - he basically is built like a thoroughbred but rather short in the back. Finding a GP for him was absolute hell - he really cannot stand any saddles with *normal* seat lengths as they press down too far back (he bronc'd me off when trying 2 saddles in the past...!). My saddler eventually found one saddle to fit which is the Kings GP with TB panels (to lift off his wither) which seemed to be shorter in the seat although still a 17".

I did get a cheapo dressage saddle for him a couple of years ago which is a Wintec one, somehow it fitted fine and he loves it! But it has got CAIR so is very lightweight which I think he likes about it.

Anyway, Im thinking about selling my Kings GP to get a proper SJ / event saddle since I already have one for dressage. Can anyone recommend anything which may suit him given the above issues?! And not an absolute fortune (cant afford a WOW

Yes, I know the easy answer is to get the saddler out however I am only thinking about it at this stage and also I have no saddler just now - they seem to have all disappeared in my area lately!

Get a single flap jump saddle, they are more forward cut so you can get a shorter seat because the bit infront accomodates it better!! My friend is 5'10 with legs upto her armpits, and has a 15.3hh short back TB. She has an Excelle single flap saddle and for a while rode in a 16.5" without too many difficulties. She did end up settling for the 17" version of it, but she is exceptionally lanky!
