It was almost as though this clinic wasn't meant to happen. I booked it because it was local, and a friend I haven't seen for a while was doing it with her mare - firstly the mare pulls a sick note out of the bag, so my friend had to pull out. Then the rain came, so Coombelands xc got closed. The coach managed to get us booked in at Parwood instead and another friend took up the free space :)

Off we toddle and 10 minutes away from the venue I realised my in-car charger hadn't been working so my phone battery had completely died, and with it my sat-nav :eek3: Another horse box pulled out in front of me, so I followed it , praying that they were off to the same place as I had no idea where I was going! Thankfully they were, and I arrived to see the lovely TFF waiting for me, although she couldn't stay long enough to see any of the clinic :( also means I have very few pics, sorry everyone.

There had been a crash on the M25, so no one had arrived for the first group, and I was the first to get there of the 2nd group although several others followed me in; we all tacked up and went out on the course, warmed up and the coach started us off on a couple of small warm up fences. She sent us off over some rails where G ducked out to the left as usual :rolleyes3: She told me I was sitting too forward (that's a novelty for me!) So approached it again sitting up a little more and we flew it. Did a few more, including almost running over the coach at the ditch, then headed onto a mound with a drop fence. I decided not to tell the coach that I have a fear of jumping downhill, so gave it a go but ended up with 2 runouts, changed to the smaller palisade and did that no problem. Good, getting my downhill fears sorted.

Then we had a bank, step and a roll top - as we were one stride out I thought "Omg that's MASSIVE" (no more than 80 cm ffs!) But kicked on and flew over it. When I kick on, and stay confident, George really is the most amazing jumper, it feels like you could fly the moon :) Did a few more that scared me, and then the water which is always good fun for G. Just before we finished my friend got there with her horse and managed to get a short stint on the xc (she was due in the first group but got stuck on the M25), G recognised her horse immediately even though we haven't met since August last year!

Back to the lorry for a spot of lunch then back up for the sj. Had been hoping the horse flies would disappear on the surface but sadly not. Did a few individual fences then put a few together. Just as I was about to jump the course, my friend appeared with her phone....

Fence 1 wasn't my best positioning ever

We then had a sharp turn to fence 2 which was a brightly coloured upright, then into fence 3 which was a straightforward small over...We had no canter coming into it as I was still trying to organise myself after f2, G chipped in a tiny stride and then realised he didn't have enough energy to jump it from a very deep standstill. I didn't realise this however, so I went flying while he stood still :eek3: :D Thankfully no pics of that, I hopped back on, did it, cleared f4 them got to f5 where this happened

a couple of times, so we went back to a tiny pole to get my canter back, and both of our confidence. Headed back to the bumble bee fence and got a good comedy moment for you all

Then came back round to it again and ended on a good note

Luckily I managed to avoid the M25 on my journey home and got back about 5:30 pm, absolutely shattered and with a very sore leg. The ice is helping!

Ouch, hope you're not too sore. Painkillers and sleep cure all!

Annoying about the traffic and diversion to a different course, but glad you got to do it anyway. So funny that you just followed another box on the way there, you could have ended up in someone's house haha.

Sounds like a really useful session. The bumble bee pic is fabulous, bless you for posting it. I have a few of those too!

Those jumps are very new and very bright! Went BSJA there today and even Monts was trying to have a gawp! Had to use rather more leg than usual. Well done for tackling some demons. Glad the XC was ok for you. We had so much rain Thursday I thought it might still be under water as my field was and we're only round the corner!

JB I always enjoy reading your write ups but I had to laugh at your faith in the non technical sat nav - the horse box in front. Good thing it was going the right way. G looks as beautiful as ever, glad you and TFF managed to catch up and I loved the pictures.

Well done for getting out there pushing boundries. You have more ball's than me, I am now happy just to have a little potter about.

Hahaha yes it made me laugh so I thought I'd share it! Most of us have been there at some point haven't we.

That's the annoying thing, he wasn't looking at the fences, he was just not responding to my leg. He did pee in the lorry on the way home, so I wonder if he was being sticky because he needed a pee!

Great write up JB, really sorry I could only pop in for short while. Hope you are not too sore x

Not really, I think I've torn a hamstring but it's not too bad.

Sorry you fell off but sounds like a good day out apart from that.

I hate jumping down hill too!

I was really determined to tackle some of my demons, so I'm really glad I did the downhill one and didn't give up (I could have done quite happ!).

Oh thank you, I try to be entertaining but always think it must be a bit dull for everyone to read about my mishaps.
I'll admit that when I was following the horsebox, I sort of knew where I was going at that point and it looked like it was headed in the same direction so it wasn't just blind faith :D

I've seen some of your pics hobo, you used to jump some serious fences, so don't go all shy on us about it!
