Well you know you cannot get the staff these days. Normally I compete by myself, often with the "help" of my daughter who is 6. So it was a real treat to have an actual supercob trained HHOer supergroom stay with me weekend before last - Mongoose11
!
We went to a Derby competition. It was on grass which I'm a bit nervy about and included a bank and massive ditch so I had entered the 70.
Daisy is highly enthusiastic about grass. She warmed up really nicely and was going lovely until I jumped the practice jumps then she though tearing round the field to get back to them was the plan of the day. At this point I was struggling to hold her in a snaffle (usually no problem).
Position is improving, hands are the next thing I am determined to improve!
There were 41 in the class and I have no idea how but we ended up 6th! It wasn't the smoothest round due to her basically being out of control then being a bit looky at the jumps (she has jumped them all before on a surface!). Anyway we managed the water, the ditch (with some encouragement it's part of a triple and she can be a bit green about combinations!) and the bank with some rider squealing as she nearly threw herself off the top.
We had a few down but it's optimum time so somehow this balanced up.
We then hired the venue for my daughter and I on the Tuesday and did this:
Daughter thought she "would just jump that little jump you were jumping Mummy" which was the water trays.
Pony cleared it the first time...
You can see her eyeballing the trays at this point!
She then did this (daughter is 6!)
Daughter was jumped off unsurprisingly, and then she refused it and fell off which led to me getting on her pony and jumping it with no stirrups no neck or anything lol. Thankfully didn't fall off and daughter jumped it several times without incident. Pony is very steady and safe but fairly went up several gears with me on her so I think she might go further than I initially thought when we bought her.
Some xc schooling:
Ditches and trakheners are my nemesis!
And on to a 60cm xc today. Decided to do the 60 as its only the second xc of my entire life and I was told its quite full up, however we are doing a 75 next week.
Clear, big pats and second place! Couldn't love this little horse more!
