My pony just took a chomp out of a potted plant growing outside the tack shop. He dropped most of it, I think, but still, I'm pretty clueless about plants...

It's a skimmia japonica, variant "Magic Marlot". I've done a quick google search and can find lots of links to plant shops, etc, but nothing that says if it's safe for spooky ponies to eat!

It looks like it is poisonous to people--potential to cause cardiac arrest
Hopefully you were quick enough to pull it out of ponies mouth
It does not appear on any list of plants poisonous to horses that I have looked at but most lists dont carry garden plants
I am 99.9% sure he will be fine
good luck

Why the he*l have a poisonous plant outside a tack shop? Kids just love playing with potted plants

I posted this when I had to run off in a hurry and had no time to research more: upon further investigation, it looks like all parts of the plant are classified poisonous, but only if you eat them in obscene quantities. It's not a known livestock poison. It's actually on a list of CHILD-FRIENDLY plants. So I'm guessing the pony is ok, since he didn't eat a whole bale of the things!
