My terrier has had a skin condition that has not responded to any vet treatment, we have tried it all!!! steroids, washes, diet etc. She licks and bites herself until she is raw. At the moment she is living 24/7 in a plastic collar anyone any ideas of what to try or kinder collars than the plastic one. She is very resourcefull and if she can find any way to nibble she will. I may even have to consider pts she is only 4 and vet said skin conditions tend to get worse. I'm at my wits end with it.

Ha she had any blood tests for an underlying autoimmune related problem or any allergy testing?
In regard to diet what have you tried and what is she on now?

Also in regard to diet, have you been vigilant that the ONLY thing that the dog consumes has in fact been on the strict diet? You often see people that will change the brand of food they feed, but still the dog might get tidbits or treats that aren't part of the diet and that can also effect the skin.

Agree, look at her food.

Have you eliminated EVERYTHING that might be a trigger, tree or grass pollen, bacteria living on her own skin, carpet, household cleaning products, etc?

Is she on anti-histamines?

Have you rules out an internal issue?

You have the option to get a second opinion/change vets. Our local vets were useless dealing with my dog but now travel 40 miles and pay £££ for a vet who actually knows what they are doing and help me fight it at source rather than just treat the end product.

Were you super-vigilant in making sure she didn't get ANYTHING else during the food trial and was it done for long enough? (think most places say to be sure you have to do it for around 8 weeks?) One option may be to get a 2nd opinion or ask for a referral to a specialist / dermatologist who will have a lot of experience in dealing with skin conditions. With regards to different collars I think there's something called a comfy collar (not sure if that's the exact name) that's made of fabric and a bit more flexible or there's a king of inflatable brace (but may still be able to get to front paws when wearing this)
