Vet came to look at keets leg today and was studying it for ages ,after trimming back some of the proud flesh he said he thinks it is going to take such a long time to healthat a skin graft is nessasery which will mean taking bits of skin out of her neck it sounds horrible and will it mean white scars on her beautiful neck

Ekk
It may or may not leave a white scar - its hard to say.

They will harvest the skin with a special tool and then transplant it onto the wound either as a section or as little circles.

If the vet recommends it, I would do it. That looks a nasty wound even though its healing.

Is that a barb wire injury?

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

My friend's ned had a bad wound like keets and it just wouldn't heal because of the proud flesh. Proud flesh stops the new skin at the edges of the wound from growing together. My friend's horse had punch skingrafts taken from under his mane. They take rows of teeny little circles of skin just a millimetre across and spread them across the surface of the wound. These little islands of skin then start happily growing and can fill a big wound in when otherwise the edges of the wound won't grow over. You won't even see the marks under the mane as they are truly tiny. And lets face it, if it does the trick then it does the trick! Be strong for keets x

I know i must do whats best for but i cant help but think that my poor little mare has been through such a lot lately and has just settled at her new yard only to be shunted up to clinic for a week then back again i feelits 6 of one and half a dozen of another but will talk again with vet on mon thanks for looking x

If you try to give her the right vibes when you're with her, sort of "love you to bits and this will soon be over" then she'll pick that up and I'm sure she'll be ok keekee. Thinking of you coz it's hard when you have to do awful things to sick neds and you can't explain why x

Its amazing what animals can go through and still take life in their strides.

Agree with the 'love you to bits and will soon be over vibes', she will be sedated too which will help and she wont remember a thing afterwards.

+ve vibes to you both
x
