Any one every seen any thing like this before?
Only on one side, very warm to touch and clearly painful as pulls away.
I washed with super diluted hibi

not sure if it’s maybe the neck/trim of a wet outdoor rubbing

or a reaction to washing powder (all rugs where washed last week)

many asvice or tips?

will be calling vet in morning

I agree it's likely the wet rug has rubbed.
I'd follow the Hibiscrub with any antibacterial cream. If it's warm to touch then this warrants a vet call out tomorrow as there may be an infection brewing.

Thank you :)

been in touch with vets this morning 1 agricultural vet is off sick and the other is out on emergency but the emailed photo is on her desk with a call asap sticky notes for when she returns, so hopefully she will give me a call with some help or to arrange a visit

My fully-clipped horse has a tendency to get rubs at this time of year from his rug and breastplate. As others have said above this could be made worse with the recent wet weather. I've changed my horses rug to a lightweight with a thick under rug at the moment as it doesn't appear to rub as much.

This may be worth a try as a prevention in future. I've not tried it myself but I'd be interested to know if it works.

Is that a fairly new clip? (It looks it as it's very neat!) If so, I'd say a combination of that, washing powder and wet rugs. One of the horses on our yard had a similar reaction to a freshly washed saddle cloth that got sweaty when he was freshly clipped. The previous day he only went for a little walk and didn't get sweaty so no reaction.

He had anti-histamines and steroids and it cleared up within a week or so.

So vets been in touch after looking at the email i have some pain killer to pick up for this evening, she firmly believes its a allergic reaction (we are leaning towards the washing powder)
shes on the yard tomorrow to do another horse's jabs so she is going to have a look on him then but thinks it will be a case on pain killer, cold compress (if he will let me) and keep the area dry, so the combo rug is coming back out

funny thing is believe it or not that is January 5th clip still going strong and he has lived out in a rain sheet this whole time

A great laundry liquid to use is Liquid Soap by DriPak. It's got no smell , no colour, it's safe for waterproof rugs and it's only about £3 per bottle. You can get it online and I've seen it at Waitrose ,not sure about other supermarkets.

Glad you got help in the end! Definitely second keeping it dry and cool, leave it alone unless your vet says not to and avoid any irritants to the area, especially shampoos, oils and even hibiscrub! Had a pink skinned horse who came out in a big rash one day that she was none too pleased about me touching - hibiscrub made it worse and it took longer to heal up that it would have if I just left it alone!

So little update vet has been today and she’s 100% sure it’s the washing powder (bad mum here!)

so I have been given an iodine wash to blotch on to it, stay in to keep dry, pain killers til Friday And maybe just a few treats you know to help with the healing.

I should have known better he is a tabiano and pink skinned

If you use shavings, check very carefully that there are no hardwood shavings in the batch. They are a darker colour and have a very distinctive sharp smell. Hardwood is well known in the joinery trade for causing skin and breathing irritation. It was one of the trigger factors that started my cob's COPD.
