hello
my shar pei has the classic shar pei skin problem she itches alot and is looking a bit patchy at the mo i have all the lotions and potions from the vet and she is bathed twice a week in special shampoo, unfotunatly the vet says its with her for life !!! is there any other products i can ues on her more natural or everyday things, she is on a non oily based food that has helped loads,i just cant bare to see her scratching i wish i could take it away from her she is the best and most loving dog ive ever had the pleasure of owning all ideas most welcome !!

Sorry to hear that.......this is typical of the breed as your vet explained.....Maybe do a search for alternative animal treatments/topical treatments on the net....there are bound to be a few.
Everyone I have come in contact with has had horribly bad skin

I don't know anything about shar-peis but I do know some dogs with skin issues, and two things have helped:

A product called Atopica
Feeding a raw diet

I have had success with a cream called Nu-stock - think it's a USA product but I did find an online stockist in the UK. I bought it for my lurcher who had developed several patches of itchy skin that kept requiring steroids and antibiotics from the vet. I came across the product when looking up information on skin conditions and was so impressed by their before and after pictures I sent off for a pot. After only 2 or 3 applications the skin has returned to normal and she has required no more veterinary treatment. Worth a look in my opinion.

bath once a week in a gentle Aloe Vera based shampoo. You can get it online, its designed for dog groomers, but aloe vera has good healing and soothing properties!
