Poor old Georige has been skinned

Out playing in the snow on Saturday and he came in with a huge chunk of hair missing on the inside of his foreleg above his knee - its about the size of my hand. I assume he got kicked whilst hooning about.

Anyways other than a tiny graze the skin has not been broken - just looks like one of those hairless dogs

He isn't lame thankfully. Have been applying aloe vera gel to help soothe and cool it and to try and prevent it drying out and cracking.

Is this the best thing to be doing or can anyone recommend anything else?

Thank you

I'd say you're doing right, you could always put a little vasaline on, but from my experience with a horse that had rubbed a large area off his face aloe was the more susccessful

What about Arnica? If the hairs of it's likely he got bruised aswell.
And cournecresine to help the hair grow back, it'll keep the skin supple too.
Hope he gets better soon.

I wondered about cournecresine but thought I would give it a few days with the aloe vera to help with any trauma to the skin? Never thought of vaseline! I am finding about an hour after I have applied the aloe vera the skins wrinkles up again, and with the best will in the world I cannot be putting it on every hour

Or honey... Did you see the photos of our mare when she put her leg through the fence?

This was when she did it, no skin left really... apart from in the circle which was a flap...

We used cheap nappies - cut up as pads, spread pure honey on it (squeezy bottle is easiest) and bandaged it on - then leave for 48 hours a time.

Leg is now jet black and all furry again - no white, no scarring!
