A few of you may remember this thread I posted a few weeks back. Well I am happy to say that my girl is now putting on the weight that she needs (now just needs topline!) :)

However I am a bit confused as to what to do next. Currently she is on 4 scoops readymash, 1 scoop nuts, 1 scoop linseed, 1 scoop Alpha A Oil and ½ scoop lo-cal split into 2 feeds. I have a bin full of readymash still which should last another 6 weeks. I am wondering that now she is putting on the weight should I:
A) keep her on the readymash and just feed less,
B) take her off the readymash and up the AAO to 2 scoops a day,
C) cut out the AAO and nuts and just have her on readymash, linseed and lo-cal?

I also want to say a massive thank-you to Holly Hocks for putting me onto the readymash, it's worked wonders!

I personally wouldnt change a thing yet, if she is gaining weight etc no doubt you are looking to do a bit more work, that in its self will balance out what your feeding,

point 2.. we are in mid july if there is a chance horsie is a poor door get a bit more weight on ready for winter and allowence of dropping some.

scarry but its 4 months till november. mid nove till feb tends to be our worst months.. WINTER its approaching far to quick!

That seems alot of feed, 4 scoops of readymash must fill a bucket and I'm guessing this is 4 scoops after it has soaked ??, presumably you split this in a few feeds through the day ? I'd keep her on what you're doing though and just keep an eye, weigh tape every 2 weeks or something and adjust to a maintenance level, when you decide to do this I'd probably cut out 2 scoops of ready mash and subsitute this with 1 scoop of AAO

NG yes that is split into 2 feeds, her feeds each way 3kg but then there is quite a high water content.

JH I think she is actually a good doer (for a TB anyway!), when she was at her breeders she was out 9-4 on fair grazing, with a scoop of nuts, handful AA twice a day, with ¾ a large slice haylage overnight and kept her weight well.

to give you an idea she has gone from this:

in 4 weeks! As I said I have another 6 weeks worth of readymash so she will stay on the present feeding routine until then, I just like to think ahead :o and I would have thought that after another 6 weeks she will be pretty much spot on weight wise?

Can you tell I'm used to fat natives?!

wow, well done she looks much better!! :)

I use bluechip original on a horse with an athletic build who will never be a fattie but occasionally looked a wee bit on the skinny side, she looks great now its expensive but she maintains her weight and her coat looks good too! ;)

Thanks Kat10. I am quite happy with her diet at the moment so don't really want to change it, do you feed blue chip on its own or with something else?

blue chip can be fed with your alfa a oil, it is high in minerals and vits so shouldnt need anything extra..

Split into four feeds - just two of that size is HUGE, water content or not.
she is on 4 scoops readymash, 1 scoop nuts, 1 scoop linseed, 1 scoop Alpha A Oil and ½ scoop lo-cal split into 2 feeds.

Both the vet and nutritionist are happy with the size of the feeds - what I listed is what she gets in a day. Also due to work commitments of both my YO and myself, more than 2 feeds a day is not an option.

My main question is what to do when she has put on the required weight, as she will no longer need a conditioning feed (the readymash).

yeah i feed her blue chip as a supplement to her feed, she gets a big feed as well!! as she is only just at a good weight ;) keeps her coat and feet good to! i got told by a nutrionalist once that you could feed blue chip as a complete feed..... but omg the cost of that would not be good!

sounds like your doing tthe right thing if its only been 4 weeks and their is that much improvement! :)
