Skipping/ hopping

I spent a little while this afternoon, trying to explain to somebody, that my JRT was not lame on his back legs, but that he was skipping / hopping, and that he as always done this. he alternates legs, so it really does look like he is skipping.
Anyway, she appeared to be taking this all in, and then said to me, mmm, maybe he has a bit of arthritushttp://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/boese/a050.gif[/IMG
Does anybody else's dogs do this??
 
My terriers always do it, so do my grandparents terriers. Must be a terrier thing :) although I've never seen their Border Terrier do it.
 
It does seem to be a terrier thing, our JRT used to do it. As I understand it is probably caused by the patella (knee) slipping, but doesn't generally cause a problem.
