I think it's probably high time I replace my skull cap, it's getting on in years, has had a few drops and bangs and more than anything else, after all those years it's starting to pong!

My current skullcap is a fairly bog standard Charles Owen junior skull cap and fits my head which is why I am reluctant to change. However, the Champion ventair skulls look like they might be quite nice (less sweaty head :p) but I'm not sure if that's reason enough to splash out on one.

Just wondering what the over all consensuses is re:the two makes?

I would go and try them all on. I have found Charles own just don't fit my head shape where champion are so comfy. I have the ventair and love it :)

I find that if your head fits Charles Owen, then it will not fit Champion. I have Charles Owen J3 Jockey Skull, i love it! So light, comfy and i don't find it too hot in summer either :) Best thing is to go try them on and see which one suits you best :)

I've always had Charles Owen as they fit my head best, tried gatehouse as liked the look of them but would not fit me at all! Make sure you get chance to try them, don't buy without doing so.

I found that the Champion ventair skull fitted me nicely but a charles owen skull didn't. However, I did have a velvet charles owen hat when I was a teenager that was also a good fit. Definitely worth trying them both on to see what fits best. I don't find my ventair to be much cooler than any other hat but then I get a very hot head when I ride! It is very comfy though.

I've just bought the champion and really pleased with it. Super comfy and it needs to give a little yet.

I've just changed from Charles Owen to Champion (Euro). Didn't realise until I got this Champion, just how much the CO didn't really fit my head! I really wanted a Gatehouse but they wouldn't fit my head at all. The only one that did was the Champion. Really light and comfy.

You can try on a lot of different hats and they all feal different. Somewhere hopefully there is one that will fit you. But bare this in mind. The approved design is tested to a standard that the hat manufacturers set so that their hats would pass. The shaped polystyrene inner shell may well be great for landing on sharp objects but it is absolutely useless if you land on your head at speed .There is neglegable energy absorbtion and the full impact travels down the neck.(and in my case crushing the nerves emerging at C4 and C6(may have got this wrong but the paralysis was real enough ,though fortunately mostly recovered) The old style hats with the webbing cradle were vastly superior but more expensive to make .

Thanks everyone :)
Think a trip to a decent tack shop will be on the cards. I'll be needing lots of patience to try everything on as obviously I don't want to buy something that doesn't fit and therefore won't do it's job :)
