Looking for a new skull cap, that I can wear for everything (XC/DR/SJ - can't really afford two new hats :o). My current skull cap is a couple of years old & really bulky, so I want something with as little bulk as possible.

Been looking at these but not sure where to start:

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Going for a try-on session at my local tack shop at the weekend, but any suggestions would be really useful.

Thanks :)

I recently bought the Charles Owen Ultralite Euro and it's fab!!!! Extreamly comfortable and very light weight..I actually forget I'm wearing it sometimes!!!!:D I paid very little for it, around £35 but I can't remember where I got it from...think it might have been ebay!

My Champion Ventair is the most comfortable hat I've ever worn

But the MOST important factor is get the one that fits you the best. A hat is only as safe and comfortable if it fits well.

Thanks galaxy23, I have an older style Champion hat at the moment that's really comfy (if huge), so will def try one of these.

With you on fit & safety, ill-fitting hats are the worst anyway, so distracting :)

the HS1 has highest safety spec but didn't fit my head shape (its def Jockey Skull shape rather than Peaked cap shape - my head is peaked cap shape ;))

so i have the CO Pro II - and love it :)

Be careful as not all skulls are PAS015! I thought they were and got caught out! If you have an awkward shaped head (or oval for skulls!) then try wearing the hat for 1/2 an hour in the shop first to make sure it doesnt give you a headache. Oh and def. get it fitted rather than buying online as the sizes vary a lot between makes.

Thanks posie_honey, I think I'll try a gatehouse for fit, although might have to wait for pay day again if it does fit ;)

Dogstar, thanks too, anything I buy has to be PAS015/BSEN1384 for BS :) Can't believe in this day & age you can still buy hats that aren't up to the highest safety standards, seems a bit counter-productive...

Looking forward to shopping now! :D

I have a Champion Ventair skull too and it's the best hat I've ever hat, when this one dies I will definitely be replacing it with another.
