I'm having a over thinking 'gah' moment about Friday and not trusting my own judgement.

Can you lovely people give me some key things to look for? I've only done this once and since we both came highly recommended from a very trusted friend we didn't do things 'properly'.

Also, I'm a bit soft and I'd like a pre thought out phrase for when it comes to leaving and wanting to express that I want to walk away first and to make the decision.

Going to see a 5 week old Corgi bitch on Friday :D

I'm really nervous that I'll get blinded by puppy and not look out for things I should be looking for and forget to ask questions I need to ask. Going on my own so won't have anyone to help remind me either.

Well I have always been a big believer in your gut instinct, check she's healthy, bright eyed, no discharge, check she's bold but not too much I guess. Check her interaction with others. I have no idea what you look for specifically in a corgi but picking a puppy is pretty simple I think if you aren't going for a show dog.

You're looking for a healthy, outgoing but polite little dog :) enjoy!!!

You need to see at least mum - and ask if they have had all the relevant health checks - hip scores or whatever is relevant for corgis I guess!:) - then you need to decide if you really like her as a dog - is she friendly and outgoing or timid and shy etc - take piccies and post them for us so we can help........;):D:D

I'm rubbish at this:eek: - the last time I got a puppy was St Sweep and that was 12 years ago!! MM, UnaB and the others who breed - they will be more help.:D

See Mum, ask to see health test results of both parents, if they have any, clean, bright-eyed, keen to meet you.
I personally would not choose a fearful or timid puppy.

Do not accept a single puppy being brought out to see you, see where the pups are living and how they interact with each other, and with other humans.

Good luck!

Ditto the above really. I wouldn't consider it a problem if the breeder doesn't have dad there, but they should ideally have pictures for you to see of him. Bright, happy puppies in a clean environment, I wouldn't worry about the odd wee or poo, from experience the little darlings always do it just as prospectie owners arrive.:p I personally like to see pups in the house, even if they are kennel reared, so that at least you know they are used to everyday household noises like tv, vaccuum, cleaner, but having said that a well adjusted puppy should soon get used to these even if it is kennel reared.
I wouldn't worry about explaining you want thinking time, it was always something I encouraged, it is after all a big commitment. Have to say in most cases people used to phone and say yes as soon as they got home, or more recently on their way home, but a good breeder should be happy you aren't rushing into the pup.
If you know the breeding of the pup you could always google the names and see what you can find out that way, but if the dam hasn't been shown there wouldn't be much info out there. If they are to be KC reg, although it is quite likely the registration won't be back at 5 weeks you should definitely ask to see the pups pedigree, and if they are sensible they will have a copy of the litter registration form, even if you aren't intending on showing or breeding if a pup is supposed to be registered imo it is important to make sure it actually is.
Good luck, and keep us updated.
