I'm a first time dog owner. OH has had one in the past but this is my first.

We have a 2 1/2 year old chocolate lab bitch who is pleasure to have around. From day one we have never had any problems. She obedient and loves company.

For the last two or three weeks though she is waking us up during the night asking to be let outside.

She is let out or walked every night just before bedtime but lately has been crying between 3am and 4am. OH could sleep through an earthquake so it is down to yours truly to let her out. TBH, as its dark I can't see if she is doing anything or just having a mooch around the garden.

Any tips please as I am starting to loose patience with her.

It's so annoying being woken up in the middle of the night, I do completely sympathise!

Have you noticed any other changes in her urination habbits? Is she sore when she's going, or increased times during the day? Have you noticed if there is a colour change too it? It could be she has a issue...If you can get a urine sample (best is the first of the day) and pop it to vets or take her to the vets for a check up?

Thinking about it maybe she is weeing a bit more. Any tips on collecting a sample?

Shes not sore on the outside but maybe there is something more going on.

Rubber gloves, a dog on a lead and a big pot:p

Your vet will have sterile sample pots, in which case you DEFINITELY need rubber gloves, as they are the same size as people ones:eek:

Think CaveCanem had a brilliant tip of using a clean plastic takeaway container (like you would get for a Chinese etc) - slide it under at an appropriate time!

(Apologies if it was someone else's idea, my memory is a bit dim!)

A wee sample to the vet is an excellent idea, Ive have 2 friends with choc Lab bitches and they have had similar problems which was sorted by the vet. Dont know whether this is a coincidence or not but worth a trip to the vet.

Thanks for the replies. Good excuse for a chinese takeaway tonight.

Poor soul, I have been cursing her and all this time she may be under the weather.

Interesting about your two friends labs Dobiegirl, I'll let you know how we get on with Skye.
