Big Ginger Lad has a very slight cough (not the usual hacking "here comes the phlegm" one that both boys have had at one time or another). It almost sounds like a slight wheeze and "ahem", accompanied by a little fart! Could it be the dry weather?

I think so. My horse has done the same, usually when starting exercise as if to clear her throat. We have a distinct lack of moisture in the air - please let it rain!

My oldish companion pony coughs a bit in warm weather (even when it's not dry) and I'm 99% sure it's a bit of liquid settling around her heart. Not a huge worry, it's common in most older animals and many humans.

I'd say only worry if yours seems uncomfortable when coughing or it goes on all day in any warm weather.

Mine had something similar for about 3 days last week (without the farting) - only the occasional little dry cough, a little bit of stuff down his nose when he had a big blow if dusty but nothing horrendous. All cleared up now. It was very dusty here in fields on the barer bits, on bridleway etc so I put it down to that. But gave him Kof-eze in a handful of chaff for a couple of nights but don't know whether that helped or not or it just got better itself.
