Horse had warm fore-leg and hoof last night. There appears to be slight swelling just under 'knee' at back of leg between cannon bone and ligament. Swelling felt like pushing into large vein - that consistency.
Any ideas for
Diagnosis?
Treatement?

Check ligament, suspensory ligament or, if you are lucky, splint. Do not ride or turn out until you know which, you can do a LOT of damage. Rest and ice is the immediate treatment for all three. You need a vet for a diagnosis.

My mare kicked herself just there, in the process of twanging her DDF. Once the leg was shaved you could see the dint. Ice pack, bandages on both front legs and call the vet for a scan.

My horse had the same, and it turned out to be a varicose vein (the one that crosses th check ligament). Hope that's all it is for your horse.

Ooh - Was wondering about the vein thing. Didn't know horses could have varicose veins though!

Is it poss for that vein to be distended when bringing extra blood supply to hoof???

Does anyone know?
