Hi
I'm slightly concerned my girl is losing condition? Or is it normal.
I've had her 5 months, came in beautiful condition, I'm not riding much right now due to work and the dark so twice a week max. So I expectd a little muscle loss, but she seems to have lost more than just muscle despite being fed well, out rugged (currently neckless 200g) 24/7 on 18 acres with 11 fat unrugged unfed ponies.
She's on conditioning mix (recent addition) emerald green chaff, suger beet shreds (recent addition) emerald green nuts (reduced quantity to make room for conditioning mix) micronised linseed (been on that entire time) multi vitamin supplement.
Wormed in November.
Up to date on teeth and jabs.
Moved her 4 weeks ago to the 18 acres
Is it normal?
She's not emaciated but I'd like a little more rib coverage.

Sounds like she's a bit short of forage, what's the grass in the field like? Maybe you could put hay out in the field for her, or bring her in for 4 hours a day with hay to eat

Sorry forgot to add grass is there, not amazing but more than she had in the last place I kept her, they have a round bale of hay out but when it runs out it takes a few days to be replaced (I'm not in charge of that part)

Regardless of the size of the field there is very little goodness in the grass now & won’t be for a while yet so they need access to hay at all times. The fact she hasn’t would explain her loss of condition. Ours are grazing, but will go to the hay feeder repeatedly throughout the day to fill up. Why can’t the hay be replenished as soon as it runs out? I would be requesting (nicely of course) that it is done.

OK thank you, that's put my mind at rest a little knowing it could be as simple as needing hay all the time.
I'll request more often.
