My dog is 10 1/2 now and having owned him from a puppy I can say that he's a bit of a quirky dog - we call him OCD dog.

He needs routine and gets confused/upset if we don't follow it. It's not prohibitive in anyway but just something we need to be aware of.

For example, he has his walking routes and he needs to decide which one we go on each time - if you try and take him a different way he'll get upset and refuse to go. It's not big deal and we just pander to him really. He also likes to decide when he wants to go a walk - it's not when you want to take him - it's when he wants to go which can be annoying when you are in a rush.

I drop him off at my parents every morning with no issue - but if my OH goes to take him or even if my OH comes with me he gets bit upset.

He's always been such a creature of habit and I've noticed in the last few weeks that these habits are changing and I'm wondering if he's going a bit senile in his old age.

It's nothing serious but this morning for example, I had to physically shake him to wake him - this never happens - he's usually up and off the bed as soon as my alarm goes.

He also usually always sleeps in the bed with us - again this has mostly stopped in recent weeks although he'll happily lie up there all day.

He also totally threw my dad today by taking him on a completely different walking route - one neither me or my dad have every taken him.

He generally seems bring in himself although his eye are looking old - a bit wattery and perhaps early signs of cataracts although the vet didn't mention this at his recent check up.

Could it just be old age? Is there anything I should be doing to make things easier for him? He's still an extremely active dog i.e. takes my dad for about 6 walks a day then another one at night with me.

I've also noticed that when he pee's, when he walks away he's sometimes still peeing a bit - another sign of old age? Anything I can give him for this? I'm sure I read somewhere about giving them cranberry juice to help incontinence/bladder issues.

Thanks in advance.

lol, My terrier gets a bit like that now, you can clearly see her go to do something-stop-and look around as if to say 'now what was it i was doing...'

The sleep thing too, in the mornings i have to poke her to get up and she sleeps longer and much deeper than she used to, but then, so does my granddad. and the peeing thing, not often but sometimes. Mils dog does it too. i think it is just an age thing now.

I woudlnt necesarrily change things unless you really need to, if hes quite content in himself then really dont treat him any differently.

Doesn't sound like anything too serious, but I would get his pee tested to make sure he doesn't have an infection, they can be painful but dogs are usually stoic about it and it can have been going on longer than we realise!

Dunno what breed he is, my old girl was still doing long hikes at ten but if he is a large breed especially, don't overdo the exercise as they go into old age.
