I don't usually post a competition report, but I was really pleased with my lad yesterday! We jumped slightly smaller than usual as he hadn't been to that venue for ages and ages, and the schedule was in a funny order so the 2'6 and 2;9 classes were the last of the day, which was a better time for me to go.
Anyway, the 2'6 was first, and he has a bit of a habit or hurdling small fences like a loony and being careless. However yesterday he really listened to me, went really nicely through all the related distances (two doubles which were on a distinctly odd stride and two dog legs) and we tried a couple slightly more daring turns that not everyone had done....and lo and behold when I finished the commentator said 'and thats a double clear, actually, that was a deceptively fast double clear as it looked like you would be really quite slow but thats actually put you into 7th place!'
Might sound strange but I was thrilled with that because my horse is only quite little (15hh) and he used to be SO strong and rush like an idiot, and then get so careless, so I was really thrilled that we have finally achieved what I have been aiming for, which is to be quick without looking rushed!! Yay!
I ended up 8th, but they didn't split horses and ponies, so if they had I would have been 2nd in the horses section as the rest of the line up was all about 13hh apart from one other horse!
Anyway, going to stop now, just had to post as was very chuffed. Did the 2'9 as well and just touched one plank and it fell, but a nice day out all round anyway.
