I'm feeling very chuffed as my barefoot trimmer came to do Mel's second trim after we removed her shoes 8wks ago. He said he was very proud of us as her feet were in good shape and she's already hacking out three times a week with boots just on her fronts. He reckoned it was a textbook transition. And this is the ex racehorse whose regular farrier wanted to put bar shoes and pads on her hind feet due to poor growth and for that reason he thought she'd never cope barefoot. To give him some credit though, the fact that he'd not thinned her sole, trimmed her frog or changed the shape of her feet through shoeing has probably got a lot to so with how well she has adjusted. So apologies that I am slightly smug about this but it is just a touch exciting to be succeeding at the transition, early days yet but good so far. I hope this gives others confidence to try
