Slipped disc-any experiences?

My papillon has been diagnosed with a slipped disc in her back. Vet has said 3 weeks strict rest, painkillers and anti-inflammatories then check progress. This is a new one for me, so does anyone have any experience of this injury, treatments, how long it took recover etc? I'm already concerned about how I'm going to enforce the strict rest-she is a typical busy little dog who likes to jump and bounce...

I've never had it in my own dogs but I've had plenty of friends who had dogs suffer from it. They've usually had to do six weeks of crate rest, leashing or carrying outside to relieve themselves. The dogs have been on either NSAIDs or steroids and possibly given other painkillers as well.
Good luck with your dog. It won't be easy.
