I have been riding in a Wintec Pro Stock Saddle (with CAIR and interchangeable gullet system) for the past month.
It fits my mare well and she is very comfortable in it - except when I ride down hills. Even short distances will cause the saddle to progressively slip forward onto and over her withers. The girth is done as tightly as is reasonable and it the problem is begining to become a real issue since every ride from my yard involves hill work. She's a TB and there is no way she'd tolerate a crupper (how does any horse
!) so any suggestions what I can do? I've an old Limpet saddle pad but it's too small as the stock saddle has a very big seat and needs a cloth rather than saddle shaped pad.
It's getting to the point where I am getting phobic about riding up hills because I know sooner or later I'm going to have to negotiate a down-hill. Getting off and re-adjusting the saddle is a P.I.T.A. as the horse is too big for me to get back on once I am off and haven't my mounting block. And she's too darned fidgety to mount using a fence or anything.
I am getting fed up having to walk home.
