My horse has been slipping on his back end. The only way I can describe it is its as if hes slipping over a pole on the floor. He had road studs put in last week as he was mainly slipping on the road which is very hilly and on old tarmac. But I lunged him tonight on grass and he slipped a few times.

The vet came out a few weeks ago I walked him up and he didnt slip in front of vet. He did flexion test and said there is no artiritis.

Any ideas as to what it may be?? Is it worth getting physio out or should I go back to vets?

I ride a mare that does this and I notice she is stiff in several places - her back, behind the saddle, her hind joints, i.e. hips, stifle, hocks, fetlocks. I can't detect any one site of lameness and think, as she's built downhill its just her conformation and way of going. She tends to forge as well. When she tries to use the back end as brakes (coming into a halt) she might lose a leg behind.

I would personally go the vet route, IF you have a really good horse vet who has looked at hundreds of horse's for lamenesses issues. Or, video your horse and really look at the way it moves. There may be exercises you could try if you spot very stiff areas i.e. ground work doing back ups, lateral work, turns on the forehand/hindquarters etc. Then do this work under saddle.

Let me know if you find a solution!
