Have decided to invest in a small 4x4 for getting to the stables, as i'm fed up of doing masses and masses of miles going to the stables and bouncing over the bumps on the track.
I wondered if anyone has any suggestions of what i should try, avoid and whats extra good.
Will definately be second hand but needs to be reliable, and also smaller than a freelander.
All advice gratefully received.

used to have the suzuki vitara hard top and I loved it

I have a toyota rav 4, i love it! it is small though not much boot room, but the back seats go down and gives you plenty, i put dogs, tack, grooming kit , rugs, water canisters in mine. And it tows, dont ask me what weight tho have to ask OH that (blond).

I have a mitsubishi shogun pinin, it is great, has four wheel, two wheel and all wheel drive. So good for round town and over fields and to stables etc. Also economical and reliable. I love it.

Another vote for the Suzuki vitara - I had one for 4 years. It never once let me down and was a good off-roader, no good for towing mind you!

Daihatsu Terios is a fabulous compact 4x4. I've had mine almost 3 years and have loved every minute. And in the snow last winter it outshone much bigger and grander 4x4s because of the short wheelbase. The only reason I'm changing (this weekend!) is because it's only a 1500 engine and to tow even a light trailer, you do need to go up a bit.
