Small bruises on Hoof Wall

I bought a little native cob from Ireland almost a year ago. She is a poppet. I noted some slight bruising on a couple of her hooves which do now seem to be almost grown out. She has a slight crest (soft) and I could tell immediately I saw her she was probably insulin resistant. Since had her tested and confirmed. Vet wasn’t bothered by the bruises on her hoof wall and neither was farrier. So far not had any dangerous episodes with me (laminitis) as I’m very strict. She’s in a lot of work with soaked hay and minimal chaff as a carrier for vitamins and minerals. Anyone else had this?

If she has white feet and the bruises are only on random bits of the hoof wall they are probably just knocks etc so don't worry. If the bruise is all round the hoof or there is a repeating pattern where the bruises are it needs more investigation.

Mine used to do it that seemed either linked to moxidectin or vaccines (same time of year), not metabolic though. I wouldn’t worry unduly and it sounds like you’re on top of it

Don't worry then, most horses will get them from time to time.

Exactly like when we get a bang on our nail. It just has to grow out.
If she's sound and the new growth coming through at the top is clean, you're all good.
