I have a very healthy 4 year old boxer, male, fit and active, having a smooch with him today noticed in the very centre of one of his eyes is a very small cloud, never seen this in dogs before but remember when my nan had catteracts (sp ?) she had a cloud in her eyes although it was much bigger, but worried this could be the start of one - any ideas, will of course book him in at vet tomorrow but just wondering of any experiences. Thankies. :D

Def get him to vet. Friend had a dog who suddenly developed a cloud in her eye. It was glaucoma, very painful condition.

Always best to get these things checked, glad its nothing to serious :)

When the old lab was about 12-13yrs my mum noticed a cloudyness in her eye I had a look and thought, given her age, it was a cataract. She was due her jabs in a couple of weeks time and seeing as she was fine in herself we waited till then to mention it to the vet. He took one look and said thats no cataract - turned out to be a cancerous growth I felt so guilty for not having it checked out sooner :(

She ended up having the eye removed, would have been the same treatment even if we'd taken her sooner but I still felt terrible about it. Thankfully she is still with us at 15yrs and only having one eye dosnt seem to bother her too much although this is now getting a cataract

Hi, thank you for your replies, vet assures me it's en eye infection and given drops, if it's not better after 5 days he is to go back again. Fingers Crossed.

Keep a very close watch as glaucoma can initially look like an eye infection in some dogs, any sense of pain around the head go back and ask for a pressure test. My friend's dog lost an eye this way and it would have been saved if it had been diagnosed sooner.

Thankyou, he doesn't seem to have any pain around his head or even his eye but will keep a very close eye on him, and will almost certainly take him back for a check at the end of the 5 days drops in any case just to be sure.
