Can anyone recommend any small shows/fun rides etc in the Shrewsbury area?

Looking for somewhere relaxed and informal ideally who don't mind inexperienced horses having a go for a bit of fun.

Thanks :)

Thanks. I looked at Netley, wow is that normal price for entries these days? Only wanting to go for a bit of fun with a very novice pony, £10 per class for showing seems a lot.

I must admit I've never actually competed at netley because they're so expensive! Minsterley show is coming up, also church stretton show :)

Church Stretton show is definitely a nice friendly one with lovely judges (in my experience also very understanding of the more "excitable" types!), it's on the 18th August and they have a nice variety of classes - entries are £5 per class. The Tedsmore charity show tomorrow sounds like it will be a really nice event, I wanted to go to it but I'm missing everything this year due to a lack of transport :frown3:

The fun rides I know of around Shrewsbury are:

11th August: Isle Estate fun ride in Bicton (love this one!!!)
26th August: Marbury Farm Ride (Whitchurch)
15th September: Battlefield fun ride
29th September: Wheatland fun ride at Larden Grange (technically Much Wenlock rather than Shrewsbury though)

There's also a fun ride at Bow House tomorrow (which is another I'd love to be doing if I could get there!), but that's in Bishops Castle so may be a bit far for you?

Netley Hall is worth it - I really like it there. I find it very welcoming. It's a busy show if they're running showing and SJ, and even more so if they're running BS as well (sometimes they have all three on) so parking can be a bit of a nightmare. But the classes/courses are welcoming, they are all really friendly and encouraging. I've been a few times.

You could also look at Tushingham (I keep my horse near Shrews and Tushingham would be about an hour's drive for me) - not been for a couple of years but found it quite welcoming and don't recall it being particularly expensive. Don't like their warm up though, usually in the rather dark and dingy indoor with a million kids galloping round flat out IME.

If you go closer to Telford then there is Telford RC at Bratton, and Wrekin North RC do quite a bit of stuff at Stirchley (they call it show ground but it's basically a big field). Also a v friendly show, I did some combined training there recently. Everyone is v friendly and encouraging. You could also check out Berriewood and Prescott (the two riding schools) as they sometimes run shows. The Wyke in Shifnal seem to have quite a lot on ATM - I live nearby and am always seeing signs on the road advertising DR, SJ, showing.

That's all I can think of at the mo!

Llanymenech is a good idea actually - they seem to have loads of stuff on (it's called Radfords isn't it?).
And there are sometimes shows on at Valley View in Ironbridge (other side of Telford).

Yes Radfords, its fab, they do SJ every week and 2 BE events, a PC event and express eventing and hunter trials, now the show on top, I love it there and Hazel (owner) is very nice :)

I didn't realise Radfords SJ was every week. I might just head over there! I like Rodbaston but it's a bit of a mission now I've moved back into Shropshire.

Have you ever been to the hunter trials there? I've been eyeing this up as our first party together as she loves XC and should be back to full fitness by then (after injury), but haven't been to them there before so not sure if it would be a bit much for psycho mare to take in! Is it quite a friendly environment or is it quite busy?

Haven't done the hunter trials but I've done a few express eventings and ODE's there and all been well run over a nice course :) very friendly and helpful, they usually let you carry on if you rock up too many penalties and things :)
