Moved my boy on Sunday and although he is fine in the field obviously being somewhere new takes adjusting to. As a result I find I'm a lot more wobbly than I was. I'm a bit disappointed in myself as Pete is a good boy really but just a bit more aware of everything at the moment. Am I being a total wimp? I have ridden him twice this week just in a field and up and down the track by the field and down to the main road. I really thought I had more confidence than this.

Not at all - sounds perfectly natural to me. Just do what your comfortable with and build it up slowly

Thank you, I just have so little confidence anyway that the smallest set back knocks me really hard. I think I'll have to go back to the beginning and start again.

Sound perfectly natural to me too. One of mine was very wired when we moved grazing. The first ride out was a bit white knuckle but he was just interested and excited.

Don't be too hard on yourself, look what you have achieved already. Deep breath, don't overface yourself. Be postive and supportive to your horse lots of pats and "good boys".
Is it the coloured horse in your sig? He's lovely.

Don't think it's just you. My horse was a loon last year (well for me anyway) and I felt really down, as if we'd never get anywhere. However, over the last 6 months I've felt so much better and a real trust has developed. Yet two weeks ago, after a change of grazing, menege issues and weather, she played up during one of my schooling sessions and a bit of fear set in. After about 10 mins I got my act together and started doing some of the basic stuff we had been doing a few months earlier. Sometimes you need to take a few steps back and take it slowly forwards again. You'll get there, you've not given up yet, and in a few weeks you'll feel better than ever having successfully got over this hurdle. Pete looks lovely by the way.

Thanks, yes he is the coloured in my sig. He has always been sooo laid back that I think because he is a bit more aware of his surroundings at the moment it has made me feel a little unsettled. He is getting cheeky as well but I think that's because of his age, he's 8 now.

I think going back to the beginning is the best thing to do

What you are feeling is perfectly normal - take your time, dont push yourself, just aim to have fun exploring with Pete, you will both feel much more confident before you know it.

Thanks Sprout, it's not been a week yet so I think maybe I'm expecting too much xx
