Hiya, I after I rode this afternoon when I was washing off the girth area I felt a small lump. I did a quick flick before I rode so must have missed it? I groom him daily but because he’s been out in there feild the mud is wet so I tend to leave his belly but it’s brushed at least 4 times a week. I was wondering if it could be a sarcoid or something else??? It’s about a pea and a half size and just behind there the girth sits. It’s not mobile to move and isn’t bothered by me prodding it either. Has anyone seen this before, should I be worried enough to get the vet out? Advice will be greatly appreciated.2357E944-79FD-4215-9BA8-444F82AC5017.jpeg

Since the girth is going to rub it, if that's what the line is, then I would want it removed whatever it is. It could easily be a sarcoid but it might be something else.
.
?how long would an average sarcoid removal be? And would it be a simple removal at the yard or will it have to be in veterinary clinic? Thank you

Depends on the type. I have had some banded, and one day they were gone, the hardest one was on her face and it grew and grew, but it was flat and needed the vet to come treat it. All of mine were done at the horses yard, no need to transport them.

My mares grew after i purchased her.
One on the inside of her hind leg above hock, pictured the knobbly one
one by boobies as per picture.
one on face pictured and two round her girth area.

Thank you it probably just is a sarcoid by the looks of it, the vet is due in our yard soon so I’ll get her to have a look. Oh gosh that’s quick! Does it mean when one sarcoid appears it’s going to spread or be more prone to it?

It's common just to have one but check her over carefully for others, and for any circles of darker hair in her coat, as that's often how they start. Those often appear on the inside of the hind legs.

You can't just have sarcoids removed. There are several different types and the treatment varies. You don't even know if it is a sarcoid until your vet sees it but I would have it checked ASAP

It looks fluid filled to me- is it like that IRL? Just wondering if it could essentially be a blister from a pinched girth?
It isn’t squishy, it doesn’t feel like there is fluid in there. Its more like a growth or sarcoid. My girth is the shires Blenheim one, I don’t think the girth could pinch it as it’s not directly on the lump just close next to it. This is my girth. https://gsequestrian.co.uk/products/shires-blenheim-soft-padded-girth-elastic-3568

Do get it checked out by a vet. It looks like it could be a sarcoid.

If it was somewhere where it wasn't going to get knocked, you could try leaving it and hope that it might drop off on its own - some do. But it sounds like it is very close to the girth line, so if left it will likely cause trouble.

If is suitable for banding, then that is a simple procedure that can easily be done at home. The horse is best sedated first, though.

This is a belly sarcoid on my mare. It was situated just where the cross surcingles go, and it started to bleed a bit, so off it came. It looks rather gruesome, but the skin that had been covering it peeled back after banding. It was never sore, though, even during recovery. On the vet's advice I kept it sprayed with purple spray to keep it dry, and it soon healed up once the sarcoid had dropped off.

Best to do this out of fly season. The pic is from late April 2021, so just before the flies came.

Can't remember off hand, but not silly money.

Standard call out charge (my vet practice doesn't do zone days) examine horse, sedate horse, band sarcoid. Well under £200 I think.
Oh wow! That’s good I was worried it would be hundreds but that’s fine, id rather him be comfortable at the end of the day whatever the money.

if its the type that uses Liverpool cream in can be expensive as vet had to come every two days to reapply ointment for 10 days I seem to remember.
