Hey everyone!

Wanting to try and show my 15.2h Warmblood mare correctly in our first ridden show since her injury - it's only a local one but was wondering if there were any tips anyone had re tack, turnout, individual show please! I have taken her to a couple of showing shows in the last couple of years but wanting to try and get everything right (key word try:p). I've attached some photos of her below.

Thanks in advance.x

Hard to tell how much bone she has with boots on- how does she move? Sports/performance horse is sort of different to the standard riding horse vs hunter, as some will have the bone of a riding horse others hunters!

I think at local level you get away with doing either or both but the turnout is a bit different riding horses tend to have velvet browbands whereas hunters have plain leather and more workman like flat nose band plain brow band, discreet numnah double bridle or a Pelham is more correct but only if your horse goes well in either and you have used one before, if not stick with your normal every day bit.

For local showing I would do a short show and try to trot away from the judge then start a figure of eight showing canter on each rein, then on the last canter extend along the long side then back to trot stop just in front of the judge salute then back in line.

As above she could do both locally and really needs a velvet browband for RH, plain for hunters.

There are a few points that would make an immediate improvement to your turnout, first that tail must be trimmed shorter it is detracting from what could be a smart horse, second if you only have a scull cap put the silk on properly so it covers the front, that would look so much better, gloves should not be black, brown or beige would improve things with very little expense.

From those photos, she could probably fit into any of the three classes, depending on the judge on the day. It's also hard to tell from photos as they take presence away, and some horses look more chunky in pics than real life, and others look lighterweight.

From what you've put up, she looks a little chunky for Small RH, not chunky enough for Small Hunter, and probably would do best in a sports horse class, but it depends as I said on the judge on the day and also on the rest of the competitors!

Shove the saddle back and sit up and lift your hands. you would have a very different picture.

A small Hunter is a scaled down in height only, middleweight. She is pretty and could do various classes locally. Have fun.
