I'm about to kit the 'new' pony out for the winter. He's got a couple of rugs, but he's starting to really feel the weather and coupled with my plans to clip him and have him in a decent amount of work by Christmas (ready for a couple of mornings hunting, and some early season showing) I feel I need to have a supply of rugs on standby. He's a veteran and stiffens up easily in the cold.
So.. being a small native I was planning on getting a couple of fleeces, one with a neck cover, a stable rug (about the weight of the jasper rug), and a MW full neck turnout. I reason that with the rugs I have (a woollen day rug and a lightweight TO) I can layer... and take away as needed. I would also quite like to get an exercise sheet just to keep his little bottom warm during the warming up period of exercise.
Problem is, he's only 10hh and I have a budget to stick to.

I don't want to pay £80 for a MW turnout that he's gonna trash by the ed of winter (he's a little git lol).

He's a 4'3 / 4'6 rug, and most manufacturers don't go that small. He's too chunky for 'dinky rugs' too...

anyone any ideas? I've tried ebay, but IMO £40 for a second hand rug is ludicrous, especially when it's sold filthy...

i just got a rambo wug medium weight for my wee boys 12.1. he takes a 4'9. it has the high neck and is a lovely fit. he is not chunky tho'. what about premier int equine, they seem to have put their prices up a bit this year tho'.
i also have a fal which is a great rug. and various others, but these are the best i think for his size

My shetland is 4'3" / 4'6" and she has weatherbetta rugs which are really good. I have splashed out on a rambo sweetitch hoody this summer and I am so pleased with it so if you can afford get him a rambo turnout (used to have rhino's for my big horse) Love these rugs so much. I'm sure rambo do them in little sizes now...

I bought my shetland rambo and rhino stable and turnout rugs so he would match the big horses! they were really reasonably priced. I have also noticed mini rugs in the new ride away and robinsons catalogue.

Can you wait until October - I notice you are Leics. Reason I say that is the Aerborn sale in Nottingham in October. I bought my filly a MW TO for £20 last time, often have lots of rugs and I find that as I'm buying small sizes or giant sizes they have plenty!!

Mine are currently in 4ft, 5ft6 and OH's horse is 6ft9!
