was going to use them for showcross, will his legs get too warm??I am of the impression they will get no warmer around the tendon area than with other boots??
I always use them for schooling/jumping and have never had a problem, post below got me thinking as someone replied these types of boot are not used in eventing circles??
I realise i am not eventing, lol, but am curious as to why they are not typically used??

They are quite heating but also get SUPER heavy when wet

- thats my understanding anyway. I also found they trap dirt quite badly when damp/wet

actually now you mention it they do hold sand when i have schooled him in the wet, havnt caused him any probs up to now but it isnt ideal(you dont expect things like that when you pay £70 a pair

),what boots do you guys use/recommend??

bear in mind that if you normally school/jump at home in them your horse will have them on longer than just for his jumpcross comp...
but personally i don't like these boots as they get so hot. i look the woof wear ultimate boots...fab and never slip!

They do soak up water - not ideal for XC or anything where you go thru water, altho I did hunt my previous QH in them.
SMB elites shouldn't let sand in if you put them on properly - need to make sure the bottom strap is really snug, should point upwards.
They are used in the hottest part of the USA on reining horses that are worked very hard and get very hot with no problems.

I have used both SMB II and Elite boots for many years....the SMB II generated a little warmth but I honestly find that the elite don't generate any more heat than other boots....my arab has a hissy fit if his legs get warm and he competes quite happily in them. I am always amazed at the number of people who spend mega bucks purchasing these boots and then fit them incorrectly, these are usually the people who complain that they don't work. I am also carefull to remove straight after competition and not leave him standing around in his boots.
