There is no two ways about it, our new girl stinks!! The bed that her foster mum gave us with her was absolutely disgusting – the smell of it made me wretch. It’s not a pee/poo smell but just a really strong dog smell.

Our old boy always had a slight dog smell but it was never as strong as hers – and he was never bathed and only got the occasional squirt of doggie deodorant.

I’ve chucked out her old bed and she has a brand new one, I bought some grooming supplies and gave her a nice brush and a squirt with some aromatherapy lavender and mint spray but she still stinks.

I don’t want to traumatize her by giving her a bath so soon but I was thinking maybe a dry shampoo or even just sponging her down might help?

Are there any products that are particularly good for a very smelly dog?

She’s going for a check up at the vets this week too so will mention it to them but I do think it’s just been because she’s been crated all day and night in that horrible smelly bed!!!

You could try Bob Martin Anti-bacterial Rub Downs. I always keep some for when my dogs roll in something and I haven't got time to bath. Rub downs remove dirt, loose hair and odour without need for water or rinsing, leaving the coat shiny and clean.
Hope I am allowed to tell you this, not specifically advertising as I have no connection to the firm!

A bran bath is a quick & safe way to remove smells . Just put dry bran ( or fine oatmeal) on a tray in the oven until warm. Rub through the coat & brush out.

Could you wear Wellies and take her for a walk in the sea or river somewhere safe .
That might help until you can bath her.
I think stressed dogs that are not happy seem to smell bad .
The bran idea is good I am going to try that on my old boy .

I would pop to vets in case it is an anal gland problem, if not I would just bath her and be done with it, is is very difficult to want a really stinky dog to be closeto you and you obviously find the smell offensive and it must keep you from spending too much time up close

Thanks for the suggestions - the smell seems to be coming from her coat rather than anywhere else.

Going to try the bran bath tomorrow to see how that goes. Failing that, we'll try some other dry shampoo and if that also fails, then she'll have a bath.

She's going to the vets on Friday so will also mention it there.

Food wise, she's on a raw diet so no artificial dog foods.

Oh, I'm going to try the bran thing too. My Border terrier permeates a rancid smell which is a shame (for me ) as he always wants to be close up and personal.

I'll have a look at the Burns feed too.

Sorry, OP, I have no suggestions except a clothes peg.

No good unless you do get to bath her, but I've given mine a good rub with tomato juice as part of their baths before now - it does seem to help with the smell a bit!

I also use human shampoos and conditioner because dog shampoos smell of dog.

You can use groom spray or dry shampoo but the dog will then tend to smell overpoweringly of the shampoo, with a faint but definitely identifiable stink of dog underneath. I don't like this combination much.

The Bob Martin wipes are probably your best bet if baths or a sea/river walk aren't options.

Can you by this from supermarket or have to go to a pet store as think I need some for my fox poo rolling hound

We take Korben to Captain Dugwash in town - they have wet room areas where doggy is securely tethered and you can bath her yourself. They use doggy specific shampoos, have a super fast dryer and its only around £10. We started taking Korben as a puppy and he fussed the first few times but now he drags me into the wet room, jumps into the bath and waits :D And they have a loyalty card too - Korben goes maybe 3 times a year depending on what hes rolled in lol

The video bottom left of the front page is my OH with Korben when he was a young dog - you can very clearly see why we make no effort to bath or dry Korben at home - you could fill several pillows with that fluff. :D K don't know if you have ever been to Cpt Dugwash but the vid gives you an idea of the set up if you haven't :)
