Just wondrered if anyone knows why dogs roll in disgusting things like fox's poo?? i've heard it's to make their sent stronger to other dogs?? my dog is 16 months old (male), he just started to do this last week...
my other dog never once did this, is it a boy thing??

No, not a boy thing. After he's done apply tomato sauce
to the area and wash off. TS neutralises the smell

My pointer does this all the time. She has very strong hunting instincts and I think she does it to conceal her own smell. My vizsla is not so interested in hunting and never rolls in poo.

One of my dogs does this all the time. It is to cover up their smell as ann-jen says. Its to make hunting easier as prey don't smell them coming!

Worst I've ever had was terrier rolling on a dead dogfish on the beach. It was winter and I had to drive 20 miles home with all the windows open freezing to death! Two of my dogs do it - one male terrier, one female collie so don't think its anything to do with gender/breed. Another delight is rolling on something dead - nothing like the smell of decomposed rabbit to freshen up your living room.
