Used to use lime powder which is a neutraliser of ammonia under the mats, but found it would clog up drainage. I dont know if it can be used as a light sprinkling over the matting floor?
If it can i might try it myself.

. And I don't spray them with anything. Maybe your drainage isn't working properly?

I think that Tia is probably right that the drainage in your stablemay be suspect & the Pee is pooling under your mats. My lad is on matting & there is no smell. Occasionally though when I've mucked out I leave the bed up & I use Jeyes powder on the damp patches on the floor. I leave the powder for a while & then sweep it away. It helps keeping the stable fresh.

I think it's marketed as Jeyes 'Freshbin'Cost about £1.99), it's used to keep dustbins fresh, so it should work in the stable.

I hope this helps

I just try and lift up and hose down the mats once in a while, and I mean not very often at all!!! Otherwise I sprinke some disenfectant powder all over the mats when the bed is up, leave it for a while then put the bed back down. We use a disenfectant by Gold Label which you can buy at most equestrian shops, but we have ued virkon in the past and thats great stuff too!!

Fieldguard do a green gloop and it smells lovely, it also breaks down all the amonia and poo under your mats, makes your mats come up like new. Don't need to do mine very often at all the. Agree it might be a drainage issue, we re skimmed my stable with concrete so that it had a slight incline from either side, now all the wee drains straight out the door. Try this link Field guard gloop

I find stablezone powder good on my mats - eliminates ammonia - just sprinkle a couple of handfuls where he pees before putting bed back down every other day to keep his stable fresh. Also no more liquid going down if you are having drainage problems.
