Hi,
My loan horse is a 22 year old, TB X Hanoverian, he has the bovine virus, causing numerous sarcoids down his neck and chest, he has also just been diagnosed with Cushings disease. Due to his sarcoids he was on box rest for 1 week, eating hay, since I have put him back out in the field (only at night) his poop has been very wet, green and like cow pat, so much so I have to wash his bottom to keep it clean. Does anyone know what would cause this and if it's something to do with his sarcoids/cushings?
Thanks in advance.

It's probably a reaction to the grass. Every Spring my horse gets this - his droppings soften and, when he passes wind, liquid comes out too. Don't forget, in the Autumn the grass gets a growing spurt and is quite rich. Most people on this forum would recommend Protexin gut balancer. I've got my horse on Protexin (double dose) but its having little effect. I've tried numerous things like: Slippery Elm, Charcoal, etc., but so far nothing has cured him. I'm going to try Coligone next to see if that helps. My horse's gut was made worse when, 3 months ago, the vet thought he had either EMS or Laminitis so he was initially box rested on a deep bed with 10 aspirin a day for 3 days and then a reduced dose thereafter. This made him really squitty and in the end I stopped giving him the aspirin after checking with the vet. I think this has caused his gut to become super sensitive or maybe he's now got ulcers. Like you, I have to wash his bottom every day - not nice. Re the Cushings, I don't think this is related as I've had 2 horses in the past on Prascend/Pergolide and neither had gut problems.
