Well I've been browsing on here for ages now and finally decided to take the plunge and join in. So very quick intro, I'm 31, from Cambs, I have two horses, a retired tbx who's 16 and my old man who's somewhere between 22 & 30! Having a few problems with him (health wise) which I'll post more about shortly. I've just taken on the ride of a lovely but very green mare who I'm sure I'll be after loads of advice on. Nailed, the vet believes he has an infected tooth root. Doesn't sound too bad, however the cost of treatment or removal is horrendous (and as he's an old boy, not covered by the insurance). I will do a full post in the vets section as I'd like to know if anyone else has been through this.

Welcome! I'm relatively new on here too, and I must admit I've spent ages reading posts, and yes it is addictive!
Whats the mare like? I have a green one too, although she has been lame for the past 4 months, she just can't be trusted to stay safe in a field, needs a padded stable me thinks....

She's a lovely horse. I've only been riding her about a month now and when I started she was very spooky (still is!) and very nervous to hack. Great to school so I suspect all she's done in the past is schooling. She's coming on really well though and this morning we had our first whole hack on a loose rein. I'm just treating her as a youngster (even though she's 11) and taking things nice and slow.
My mare is the accident prone one. She's been retired to the field for 10 years now (due to navicular) but she still manages to see the vet every 6 months!

Hi and welcome and I hope you get the old chap sorted. Cairo didn't have insurance and presented me every three years with a bill for about £2,500 - £3,000 for cancer - normally perfectly timed for when we thought we finally had some savings.

Young ones are as bad - Farra does have insurance but with £500 limit and had a nasty abcess which came in at £493 this year.
