Well it had to happen sooner or later -

Walked the XC course at Smiths Lawn saying 'this looks very straightforward' (with the exception of the steps up to the pallisade thing).

Molly is fab XC, never stops (although breaks can be a bit dodgy) so I was thoroughly over-confident all morning.

Set off from the XC start to realise that the course was nowhere near as easy as I thought. Molly was rocketing around, steering was not so hot but we were doing OK (managing to stay mostly on the track).

Nearly home - we flew over fence 12, a brush on top of the hill before the water. Flat out down the hill I realised she had locked on to the Novice fence. Desperately tried to pull her to the left to get through the silly little gap they had left for PN. Missed.

Molly took the Novice step, decided against the rail that was there to prevent her heading out into the main lake and swerved.

I hung on desperately (long enough to make sure I was right in the middle of the water where all the people having picnics could see) and then gravity took over!!

How humiliating!!

Long hack home through Windsor park. Dripping wet. Dog walkers asking 'did you fall off?'.

Had to spend the rest of the day smelling like a pond in horid wet kit (I had another pair of breeches to ride Merry, but only one pair of boots, one body protector and one jumping hat).

Yuck!

On the bright side, at least it was the lake and not the nasty muddy puddle before the finish.

I'm sorry, I cant help but laugh

Glad you're ok and horse was good, have to say that water was horrid and way too deep, even in the fenced off part. Moon launched off the step and we very quickly swerved once we nearly disappeared up to her elbows!!

EW ! Thats my fear at every event / schooling session ! - Schooling i put my mobile in my pocket - i know i will then do everything to stay on.
I couldnt compete at smiths cause im in the protection zone - what was the PN like?

Rest of the day was mixed.

Molly's dressage was MUCH better - got 44.5 from mean judge but she was well clear of the bottom of the class which is a huge improvement!

Molly SJ - idiot rider error - I circled and got 4 faults. She jumped much better though.

Molly XC - as above. The least said, the better I think!

Merry - I was wet and smelly by then. Thankfully shaken out of complacency. It was only his 2nd PN and he didn't go XC at his first (wasn't ready for Gt Tew XC course).

His dressage was pretty un-eventful. Not great. Not terrible. Got 41.

SJ was hugely improved - much more confident, just had 1 down (dropped a hind leg in an oxer - just a green mistake).

XC - he was fab!! Very green, jumped a few from a standstill, loads of time faults but clear. So proud!

I thought the PN track was pretty fair. It seemed to ride a bit more difficult than it walked because the jumps came up out of the woods really quickly. Actual fences were mostly straightforward though.

I was really pleased with both of them actually.

'Incident' at the water was just a bit of a communication problem really (and at least now we know Molly will jump into open water!).

oh dear, thats the same fence where i got my bloody nose! and it was VERY deep, glad you and Molly didnt get hurt!

The course did walk easier than it rode i think due to how quick the jumps came up on you, luckily my breaks were in full working order!

Thanks all, it was funny actually (once I stopped being really cross about the whole thing!).

No photographer in the area (thankfully). Husband is gutted that I managed to fall off in the water and he wasn't there to see it!

No harm done (Molly and I both absolutely fine).

As HH says, at least we know she would have been fine with the bigger jump too!
