Went down the yard yesterday to see that IdiotPony has somehow managed to snap a front incisor.

Still a bit of tooth left in the gum although no blood or swelling.

Waiting for a call back from both the vet and the dentist to see who is going to have to lovely task of dealing with it!

Has this happened to anyone before?

Ouch - poor pony. Would there be a possibility it may carry on growing up through the gum, or is the damage more severe than we can see in the photo?

I honestly have no idea what the correct course of action to take is here - I've never dealt with this before!

The damage doesn't look any worse in real life - in fact it all looks quite 'normal' - you'd have thought it was a healed old injury.

Just have to see what the pros say I guess!

My boy has a missing incisor one of the outer ones, it has never grown and never caused him any problems not having it, the only thing us the dentist has to rasp the opposing incisor as it doesn't get worn down on it's own

My oldie snapped off three of her top incisors, the day after the dentist saw her and commented how good her teeth were looking! She hasn't needed anything doing to them. The roots are very deep and it would need a GA for removal I'm told.
She still manages to eat even short grass perfectly well. Dentist said they just use their lips instead to grasp the grass. You can certainly hear her cropping the grass well.
I would suspect they'll say to leave well alone.

Thanks all - I will keep you posted.

Silly boy. I reckon he did it playing, they're always very mouthy with each other. Must have been one hell of a bump to knock the tooth off though :(

Let's hope he doesn't have to eat mashed potatoes from here on out!

Interesting, I noticed my boy has snapped of one of his tush's a week ago, I suspect he caught it in the clip on his rug, which had ripped off the rug and broken
The vet is coming next week so was going to check with him then, but must need a large force to snap a tooth  As it was causing him no issue, I decided I really don't need another emergency vet call out!

Just spoken to the vet who said to basically leave it unless it turns brown or gets infected.

I asked if it will carry on growing, and she said about 2mm per year (so basically, no!)

She said the only thing they can do is to X-ray the gum to see if there's any damage but to just keep an eye on it for now.

So the conclusion is I have a pirate pony.
