Snide comments, are they right?

The most important thing is to stay safe .
But I would not be happy to ride for hours in that combination and if a hunter came up for sale that needed that degree of kit to stop I would not even view it.
It's up to you what you do with your horse but am I suprised that lots of people dislike your arrangement no I am not.

I wouldn't want to hunt such a strong horse either & I didn't hunt my strong horse as it would have blown his brains.

He was a great horse who I kept until he died but would I have another one like him? No way!

I appreciate everyone's comments, It has definitely helped me in my way of thinking about it and yes I do ride with two reins..

I understand where you guys are coming from with the hunting comments, however he is one of those horses that wants to be at the front at all times and has an incredibly long stride, obviously this is not correct hunting 'manners' and the huntsman etc is always at the front. This combination is not about hanging off him and using it all the time to hold him back but more using the snaffle attachment to keep contact and then when he starts getting too bolshy to engage the other rein to remind him that it is there; then if it continues I use it more until he comes back to me. I absolutely love hunting and so does he, he knows when the big lorry comes that that is where he is going and his ears prick, he dances about and pretty much loads himself (which is a lot for a horse that usually needs food persuasion to load.) So I wouldn't want to not go just because of this, I have never had any doubt when out about being safe.

I also find the hunting crowd to be alot more understanding of the combination than the general horse community
