My poor mare has been on box rest with tendon injury for last 5 months although luckily she has just started turnout this week, starting with an hour! She has been a bit depressed this last week and not eating as much hay but I put this down to being stuck in and no controlled walking. However I noticed yesterday on way to paddock for first hour's turnout that she had a fair amount of gunky yellow snot in one nostril.
I have sent a text to my vet as he likes to be updated on her progress! Any ideas on why only snot in one nostril and whether I should get vet out.

I thought that yellow or greenish snot means infection. Got the vet to check a horse at the yard today who is streaming dayglo gunk from both nostrils since last week. He's been prescribed antibiotics. Hope your girl feels better soon.
My share horse is also indisposed due to a problem with his stifle. Had it for ages but today he was really bad. We Used this as excuse to get the snotty one checked over as owner had one nothing. A stalking horse , so to speak.

I would get in touch with your vet for a once over.
I think yellowish snot indications a infection and if so could be a sinus infection specially if it only in one nostril.
Does she have a temperature?

She is due a check from vet for her tendon so will get him out asap! At least the call out will be covered by insurance due to on going treatment for tendon!

Just one nostril is often a sinus infection, if so very easy to treat. When I called with description vet thought as much and didn't rush out, but when they came diagnosed it and I had a hefty vet call out fee!

That much snot indicates that there is infection present, being from one nostril only indicates that it's an upper respiratory, possibly sinus, infection rather than deeper in the respiratory system like the lungs.
Personally I would have the vet out as the snot combined with the quiet behaviour of the horse means that he probably needs some treatment to clear the infection up.
