My 9 month sec d colt has quite a snotty nose - noticed it on the inside of his leg before where he had rubbed his face......its quite thick and yellow. He is fine in himself no coughing or heavy breathing noises etc...... my cob and companion in the same field both seem fine with no nasal discharge.
Any ideas?

I've always found that youngster tend to be like children, pick up everything that's going until their immunity builds up a bit.
From what you describe he has a little cold that will probably clear up on its own but I personally would check he hasn't got a temperature and keep a close eye on him for a few days. If he has got a bit of a cold he would be best not to get wet and cold so maybe pop a light rug on him if he hasn't got one?

My vets coming out to have a look at him in the morning ......have been advised that if he looks poorly in himself when i check them after than to call vet out sooner.

Think it best (for your peace of mind) the vet checks as due to the colour he could have a bit of an infection. If it is white and /or clear then I wouldn't be concerned as that is quite common given the time of year. More than likely to be just a cold but better to have it checked out.
