Little foal who has been with us 2 days has developed one snotty nostril. I think he may have got chilled as when from a nice warm barn with lots of others to being out during the day (not today).

I am not worried as it doesn't look like strangles or sinus infection.

However any thoughts on anything to make the little chap feel more comfortable (he won't eat hard feed, as hasn't discovered things like this yet!)

Lots of TLC and Kleenex

. Just let nature take her course, it will make a man of him! M.

Does he have a temperature... If so I'd get the vet out ASAP... Strangles can show itself as a 'slightly snotty nose' initially and trurn into something quite nasty (stating the obvious I know).

Aloe vera juice is suposed to be good for boosting the imune system...

Is the snot (excuse me for asking in such detail) clear discharge or think green smelly snot?
If it smells and its thick green discharge then I would have a vet out asap to check everthing is ok to be on the safeside, specially if your on a yard with other horses.

If its clear then I'd let it run its course for a week.

Hope the little fella is ok.

I agree I'd get the vet to check asap.....a horse came onto our yard with a bit of snot and half the yard ended up with strangles!

It was a very thick but relatively clear compared to a sinus infection (hence me not thinking it was anything bad)

I went up in the everning armed with warm saline water and it had all cleared up, so I didn't even have the satisfaction of being able to clean his nose!

Little one is settling in well now.
