Hi all

I have just started to bring my horse back into 'proper' work again and have noticed a thick white mucus running out of one nostril (near side) after work.....normally it is clear...??

I have stepped the work up a bit recently.....and wondered if it could be that..? he only gets it after being worked, its not there when at rest....no temperature or other symptoms......only the odd cough...again when working first 5 mins...so put that down to clearing his lungs....? the white snot is very thick and sticky and comes out on its own fairly quickly..?

Hasn't been anywhere recently to pick anything up...

what do you think.....see how it goes....and if it gets any worse or changes colour call vet....??

Choc orange for those this far..... xx

In my experience it COULD be the start of a dust allergy. I ignored this with my mare and she developed a full blown allergy. If you feed dry hay, try soaking it for a couple of weeks and see if it resolves.

Thanks i did wonder - he is on hage(and livery) i did notice the hage smelling a bit funny ( you know that sickie smell......so asked them to open a fresh bag for him and have put fresh minimal dust shaving in his bed as wondered if an older damper through winter bed may be containing some mouldy spores or something thatt weren't helping so now its fresh... x

With my mare, I put her on rubber matting with a sprinkle of paper bedding, as the shavings bed did get dusty/bit mouldy; plus I always soak her hay. She is now fine, whereas before she did have discharge and the odd cough. Good luck.
