Sorry if you are having dinner!!! But tb mare has had v snotty right nostril since sat. Had vet out, no temp or breathing problems, eating and pooh normal, no swollen face or glands, but her right sinus cavity sounded different to left, so vet diagnosed sinusitis . 5. Days antibiotics and its less, not constant stream, so off to get another supply of ab, any other ideas, certainly ruled out teeth, strangles or anything infectious cos no others on yard effected at all.
Never seen so much snot come out of a horse, and if she snorts watch out!

Please don't rule out a tooth problem unless you have had x-rays done. My horse nearly died as a result of a tooth abscess being missed and the horse being diagnosed with primary sinusitis. She ended up in hospital for two stays for nearly three months as a result of the complications of it not being correctly diagnosed and that was AFTER the x-rays. It was only when I nearly had to beg for another set of x-rays that it was finally diagnosed. However the infection had spread so far by that time that she had to have bone removed from her face and serious sinus surgery involving a general anaesthetic when they also made a cock up of removing the tooth.
My horse would pour about two litres of yellow mucus out at any one time.
I hope yours is primary sinusitis, but after my experience I would never ever rule out a tooth issue.

mine had same this year - started with tiny amounts of blood from nostril in april - many said ignore - i didnt and had scopes etc but nothing obvious (inc up into pouches as i had nightmares of bleeding out)

anyway - that went away but in july she had a huge amount of pus from the same nostril - stinking green stuff - honestly you could smell her from a meter away :o i was on hols at the time and lady looking after her only told me the day i came home 0 i suspect she had 'normal' (non-stinking) pus before that but as she has allergies and has nasel disharge most of the time anyway i suspect she didnt notice a difference ;) but no harm done - took her straight to vets for scopes, teeth examination and xrays and no obvious cause found.... 14 days high dose anti b's sorted it (touch wood)

interestingly shes always been a head shaker and its def improved since.....

Well we on second lot of antibiotics, vet said will investigate more it it not better by wens . Horse never been sick in 5 years, going to call the dentist to be sure it's not teeth, and it is infected sinus.
