I just woke up and it started snowing fast and lots of it and its lying quickly and getting deep already ( the difficulties it brings myself is usual school closures , cant use cars at all have to park several streets away on main road, have to walk fifteen mins either way to yard as cant get up track in car, just everything really !I get so tired walking lots esp twice a day each way and so stressed supermarkets are really busy an hour to get parked if you can make it outside never mind inside ,i feel such a grump already it makes my life so hard ive had a few near misses in car already driving slipping on ice .Am i just the only one ?

I have long lost the ability to see it's beauty. This time of year makes shopping/parking difficult without the aid of snow. Naturally walking through snow to our cherished beasties just takes the joy of ownership pall, at least it does with me!!
We are threatened with more but in fact it is raining and windy here at present. Where are you don't send it our way thanks:)

We don't get much snow here, so when we do people don't know that to do about it, the other week (when we got an unprecedented 6inches) no one went out and cleared the snow from their drives, or the footpaths, people went out in their cars or on foot and the snow was crushed down, then it froze and for about 10 days the road going out of our housing estate was like an ice rink, it was quite frightening trying to walk into town (I didn't take the car out until the snow and ice were gone), I kept having visions of someone loosing control of their car and hitting me!

Our house is on a sort of T junction on the - part opposite the |, which has a slope to it, I'd be sitting in the living room with a camera in hand waiting for someone to come sliding down the road and in our living room window!

Apart from the lack of riding I dont mind it normally, a little bit of common sense and driving is no problem!
But I`m meant to be moving on saturday and the horses are coming with me, transporter wont be able to get to the yard if it snows!:(

If I didn't have horses I probably wouldn't mind it too much, unless I had to travel anywhere of course!

The snow just makes everything so difficult with the horses. We're not allowed to turn out usually, and one of my horses is a box walker, so you can imagine the mashed up mess that his stable becomes, and I have to use a lot more bedding. When the taps freeze, all of our water has to come out of the YOs kitchen, and the easiest way is to fill up the big jerry cans or buckets and take them to the stables in wheelbarrows. It's a lot of effort. If it's too dangerous to turnout, then it'll be impossible to ride. The school is sand, so freezes. I've been more aware than ever before to keep stocked up with hay, just incase we have a prolonged period when snow would prevent delivery. It's just hard work.

I'm rather hoping I'm on me way back from the difficulties its brought to me :o I slipped on a frozen puddle, dislocating and breaking my ankle and spent the next 10 days in hospital waiting for the swelling to go down enough for them to operate! Am on crutches and looking at months off work now.

I may be the only one but I love it! I just park the car somewhere safe and out of the way, and walk everywhere, I feel a lot more healthy for doing that. I'm lucky as the yard is only 15/20 mins, the supermarket about 10 mins. The dogs love the extra walking, I take my time and spend a longer time outdoors as I find it easier to keep warm when I'm doing things. Over the years I have collected clothes and boots that make life easier and that helps too.

I love it when it snows and to be honest apart from not being able to ride makes no impact on my life. I am quite happy to drive in the snow, in fact when I learnt to drive 4 years ago some of my driving lessons were in the snow. Our council is already out gritting all the pavements and car parks in town to ensure people can move around safely.

The yard is accessible and if it wasn't the owner lives on site, there is a tap in the toilet which has a radiator so we never have frozen pipes, and the fields are close to said tap. Pretty much all the horses live out regardless of the weather, so no need to worry about getting horse from field to stable.

Another day working from home. I've given up the thought of riding until the new year. Cant see the point as the roads are icy and last year we got out the Monday before christmas and then had 6 weeks of ice and snow. On the plus side the yard and sand school look very clean until it thaws

I much prefer snow than rain/wind and it even makes life easier for my horse!
At least I don't have to be worried about him being unrugged/unclipped living 24/7 outside as I know he won't be cold because of the rain! (he doesn't get cold witht he snow as very hairy!) :-)
Farmer in DIY farm where he is kept makes sure he has ad-lib hay and break the ice on through if I can't get there because of icy roads :-)
So as long as there is not rain, I'm happy and my horse seems to be as well :-D

My biggest problem in this is due to a bad back, as I have to humph water from house to the yard.

As said above, we have snow several months of year so are used to just getting on with it. As long as careful when driving, then it's fine.

I'm just worried it's going to mean me being stuck at uni for longer and not being able to go hoooome (which I really want to do now, I've finished lectures and am just killing time until Saturday!)
When I'm at uni it's not too much of a problem as haven't got a car here and can literally walk everywhere, but the cold is what really gets me (typical student freezing cold house..) But when I'm at home I actually quite like it - means I walk into town alot, spend a lot of time with my family (as no-one wants to drive to see other people)
The missing riding bit bugs me as well - the horse I share is stabled at the owners house, so luckily if we can't get there they are quite happy to turn out etc, but it is a pain; would probably take about an hour and a half to walk there!

When it freezes I can't get the car out of its parking space at home (on a steep slope and then lots of tight turns to get out of car park); all the roads to the yard, bar one, are "side" roads and very narrow (one car wide at the best of times) so never get gritted or salted; yard is 7 miles from home . . . . and I only have a little hatchback . . . .
