Snow,shoes and hacks!

Hey guys! just a question.. when my mare is in the field, when its snowy, as exspected, the snow compacts and she looks like shes walking wih heals on! obviously, this isnt good for her joints, but people still go for hacks in the snow? how do you guys stop the snow from stivking in their shoes? ive heard of useing vasaline and lard? do these actually work? what do you guys think or use?

Hi, yes coating the soles of the feet with Vaseline does work . I did ride in the snow as well once coated my horses feet with it ( the snow was fresh and it was off road). Let's hope we don't get any snow this year eh?

Once vaselined, it's best if you trot - the motion flicks the balls out of the shoes when they've collected enough and the vaseline stops them sticking. Fresh snow is fine, but I wouldn't go on the road!
